Dr Fay Short
Are you navigating a challenging phase in your life or seeking support to understand and manage difficult emotions? I offer a warm, supportive space where you can talk openly and work through life’s challenges at your own pace.
I am a qualified integrative therapist, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioural approaches. This means I can adapt our sessions to suit your individual needs—whether you’re looking to explore past experiences, develop practical coping strategies, or simply feel heard and understood.
In addition to these core modalities, I am also formally trained in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), hypnotherapy, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), which allows me to bring a broader set of tools into our work together. With further training in coaching and mentoring, I take a flexible, holistic approach, tailoring our sessions to your unique goals and preferences.
Areas I can support you with
I support clients with a wide range of concerns, including:
- Anxiety
- Low mood and depression
- Self-esteem issues
- Stress and overwhelm
- Relationship difficulties
- Emotional wellbeing and personal growth
Therapy isn’t only about addressing problems—many people come to enhance their wellbeing, build resilience, or deepen self-awareness. Whatever brings you to therapy, I aim to meet you where you are, with compassion and care.
How sessions work
I offer remote counselling by telephone or secure video call, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your own home—or wherever feels most convenient and safe. This flexible format can make it easier to fit therapy into your life, especially if you have a busy schedule, mobility concerns, or prefer the privacy of your own space.
Professional memberships
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an Accredited Registrant with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). These memberships reflect my commitment to ethical practice, ongoing professional development, and the highest standards of care.
I adhere to strict codes of ethics, including confidentiality, client autonomy, and professional integrity, giving you reassurance that you are working with a safe, trustworthy, and accountable practitioner.
Academic and professional background
Alongside my therapeutic practice, I am a Chartered Psychologist and Professor at Bangor University, where I serve as Course Director for the MSc in Counselling.
My academic background includes:
- A PhD in Psychology
- Master’s qualifications in Research, Education, and Law & Criminology
- Author of a textbook on Core Approaches in Counselling and Psychotherapy
My work bridges research and practice, allowing me to bring current psychological insight into real-world therapeutic settings.
Working together
Whether you're seeking brief counselling or longer-term psychotherapy, I offer a calm and supportive space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to move forward. When the time feels right, we can work together to support you through this phase of your life and take steady steps toward a healthier, more fulfilling future.
